Christine Fitzgerald Requiem
Book Design

Requiem is a visual testament to nature’s fragile beauty and a warning for what we stand to lose.

Photo-based artist Christine Fitzgerald has a long-standing fascination with historical catalogues and collections of natural history specimens. Through her photographs, Fitzgerald considers historical museum specimen collections from the contemporary perspective of the Anthropocene epoch, with its underlying themes of extinction, impermanence, and loss. By bringing these specimens back to life, she hopes to convey a sense of the planet's present plight and uncertain future at a time of unprecedented and escalating ecological destruction.

Requiem is now held in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada and the Royal Ontario Museum.
